A Blade Runner sequel is a curious proposition – and so is a January 12, 2018 release date. January/February is generally regarded as the box office doldrums (although Deadpool recently put that idea to rest), so it’s odd that such a high profile starring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling would open then.
Denis Villeneuve will direct a story by Ridley Scott and Hampton Fancher, that picks-up the plot thirty years after Scott’s seminal 1982 Philp K Dick adaptation. Blade Runner doesn’t need a sequel, so I’m curious to see what made all this talent decide to make a movie that’s going to come under a lot of scrutiny.
I’m still not sold on the idea, but I’m hopeful.
