An Apology For GODS OF EGPT Casting; Nobody Says Sorry For The Bad CGI

Lionsgate and director Alex Proyas have apologised over the lack of ethnic diversity in their forthcoming CGI-fest Gods Of Egypt. They’re obviously hoping to avoid the negative publicity that faced Ridley Scott’s Exodus when it passed Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton off as ancient Egyptians.

The following was released to Forbes as a mea culpa:

Alex Proyas: “The process of casting a movie has many complicated variables, but it is clear that our casting choices should have been more diverse. I sincerely apologise to those who are offended by the decisions we made.”

Lionsgate:  ”We recognize that it is our responsibility to help ensure that casting decisions reflect the diversity and culture of the time periods portrayed. In this instance we failed to live up to our own standards of sensitivity and diversity, for which we sincerely apologize. Lionsgate is deeply committed to making films that reflect the diversity of our audiences. We have, can and will continue to do better. ”

I have no problem with casting – movies are movies and the whole thing looks terrible anyway. I don’t think anyone who has watched the trailer believes that Gods Of Egypt is anything but utter Hollywood fantasy. Proyas and Lionsgate should really be apologising for the god-awful CGI.

Gods Of Egypts opens in February 2016.
