Sit! Rick Moranis On Set With A Terror Dog In A Behind The Scenes Image From GHOSTBUSTERS

If you’re like Movies In Focus, then you look like back on the 1980s with great fondness. I don’t mean in a Stranger Things loving/Hipster ironic way, but with a real ‘I was there’ affection.

One of the great things about that time was the wonderful practical special effects featured in movies. The effects teams hit their stride in that decade and delivered some stunning work in films like Ghostbusters

Ivan Reitman’s 1984 film is a wonderful example of a blockbuster done right. The script hits the perfect note and the casting is just off-the-scale great. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and William Atherton are all fantastic. Throw in wonderful production design and a cracking score (and theme tune) and you have a an iconic classic.

The special effects still hold-up exceptionally. Just look at the above image of Rick Moranis being terrorised by a life sized Terror Dog. It’s brilliant. Today it would all be done by CGI, but there’s some great context with Ivan Reitman sitting in the corner, looking on at the scene.

In 1984, Ghostbusters grossed over $242 million at the US box office and more man $295 million globally. That’s a lot of ectoplasm.
