You can love him or loathe him but Nicolas Cage works like a trooper (Movies In Focus is in the former category). He’s got the great looking Primal set for release alongside Color Out Of Space and now he’s signed-on to the meta-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent – a film which will see Nicolas Cage play…himself.
Here’s the dope from Deadline:
The film tells the story of Nicolas Cage (Cage), who, in need of some money and creatively unfulfilled, begrudgingly accepts a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a Mexican billionaire super fan. When things take a wild turn, Nick is forced to become a version of some of his most iconic and beloved characters in order to extricate himself from an increasingly dangerous situation.
Admittedly, this concept could be either great or terrible. If it’s terrible then it could be the movie that finally throws Cage into the total parody category but if it’s great, then it might just be the movie that brings him back into the mainstream. As always, time will tell.
Lionsgate is currently in the frame to score the pic which has been written by Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten.
