We can all agree that Tom Hanks is a great actor and he’ll probably turn in an impressive performance as the villainous Colonel Tom Parker in a movie about Elvis Presley. Parker was the man who made Elvis a star, but he was also a machiavelian character, lurking in the shadows and banking half of all of The King’s earnings.
However, the idea of a movie about Elvis directed by Baz Luhrmann sends shudders though my soul. You know that this is going to be some gratuitous whiz-bang-slam glitter fest. Will it focus on the ’70s Vegas period Elvis? I don’t know but I can already hear the over-produced soundtrack with cover versions of classic Elvis tunes.
I don’t hold out much hope for this Presley pic.
