Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 blew Movies In Focus’ young mind when I read it as a teenager back in the 1990s. Bradbury’s 1953 novel sees ‘Firemen’ burning books in a dystopian future. It’s dark and thought provoking and while François Truffaut’s 1966 adaptation works well, the tale still needed an adaptation that matched the power of the book. That might change with Ramin Bahrani’s new HBO film starring Michael B.Jordan and Michael Shannon.
Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel. In a future where the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and “firemen” burn books, Jordan plays Guy Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as law enforcer and with his “mentor”, played by Shannon. Premieres Spring 2018 on HBO.
