It would seem like Ben Affleck is tackling the tabloid bull by its horns by starring in The Has-Been. Affleck has become a whipping boy to the rags following personal problems over the years and it looks like he’s going to face them straight-on in this sporting drama where he’s in the frame to play ‘a former basketball all-star who has lost his wife and family foundation in a struggle with addiction. He attempts to regain his soul and salvation by becoming the coach of a disparate, ethnically mixed high school basketball team at his alma mater’.
Written by Brad Ingelsby, The Has-Been would see Affleck reunite with Gavin O’Connor, the man who called the shots on the rather fun, The Accountant (read the Movies In Focus review). No deals have been made, but Warner Bros will fast-track the pic if the elements come together.
O’Connor is currently signed to helm DC Comics caper, Suicide Squad 2 and Affleck may or may not be starring in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. It’s likely that The Has-Been would leap-frog both of these movies to the screen.
I like Affleck. I like O’Connor – and I’m all for this.
